In 2004, a tribute to Ayrton Senna moved guests, displaying the medals, flags, clothes and helmet of the Formula 1 driver. The menu of the Canvas restaurant was adapted with dishes from the champion’s favorite meals and all the proceeds were donated to the Ayrton Senna Institute. The Hilton São Paulo Morumbi received a travelling exhibit of Romero Britto, currently one of the most internationally known Brazilian artists, that then moved to the Hilton in Belém do Pará.

Among the boldest exhibits, Sandra remembers the February 2008 show that displayed the Rosas de Ouro Samba School costumes, focusing on valorizing the work of the carnavalescos. “It was a different kind of art, but one that uses a lot of creativity and showed a part of our culture.” The last show, closed in March, brought the art of ikebana in a completely innovative proposal for the eastern world.

The well-known artist Ursula Altenbach and her group of students developed giant sculptures using natural and other materials. “The project was beyond the normal conception of traditional ikebana and its beauty took us to ancient civilizations. Only the sensibility of a great artist could compose the scenes we displayed,” she concludes.

For the months of April and May, the Canvas Cultural Center, in honor of the Year of Brazil in France, will present collage works by French artist Lulu.
